This is an apron inspired by a historical apron that was part of a costume worn by dutch women in the 18th century. The costume I chose is from the province Zeeland, in the south of the Netherlands. The costume has a lot of symbolic and cultural layers which I took as an inspiration for my design.

To create a contemporary look, I took aspects from both the women's costume and the male one, keeping in mind what contrast showing skin, comfort and colour would create from the original costume.
